Euro 2002 Gliding Expedition

Selected photos from our collection

By invitation from our Swiss hosts of the Mollis Gliding Club, a fast run was made down their 6000' runway. Much photography took place. As a matter of interest the run began at 140kts and finished at 124kts a mile later providing enough energy for a sizeable circuit.

Barry, Andy, Dave and Phil braved the centreline. Robin and Pete in 13.

After climbing in wave both the ASH and the Duo were able to look down on the amazing Mt. Bernina (13,284'). The Italy/Swiss border runs through the peak, Italy being on the cloudy side.

Robin and Roger got the view.

The Engadine Valley. St Moritz flanks the lake with Samedan airfield a little further to the North. The valley bottom is around 6000' above sea level.

Here the Duo (Ed and Andrea) is climbing in wave behind Mt Tödi (11,857'). The trip across the high Alps to Samedan could have been done using thermals but we have chosen the more dramatic high level route provided by the wave.
